Divergent



Divergent is the first novel by American author Veronica Roth is the first installment in the Divergent trilogy. It lies within a dystopian version of Chicago. The Divergent novel has been compared to similar young adult books such as The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner, due to its similar theme and target audience. Roth said that the idea for the series was born while in college. Its main plot device, the division of society into personality types, is similar to the 1964 novel by Philip K. Dick, Clans of Alphane Moon. Summit Entertainment acquired the media rights to the book, and the production of the film took place in 2013, also titled divergent. The second novel in the trilogy, insurgent, was published on May 1, 2012, and the third and final book, Allegiant, on October 22, 2013.

Divergent Plot

This story takes place in the city of Chicago, in the near future. The city is divided into five factions: Abnegation, for the selfless, Amity, for the peaceful, Candor, intended to honest, Dauntless, for the brave, and scholar, meant for the connoisseur. On a certain day of every year, all sixteen young have an aptitude test to be told why faction that are most suitable. After receiving the test results, which must decide whether to stay with your family or moving to a new faction.

Sixteen year old Beatrice Prior was born into a family Abnegation but disinterest has never come naturally to her as he does with his brother, Caleb. She feels lonely and constrained by their environment and feel you do not belong.
